How a positive mindset can impact your daily life.

Staying positive can be struggle

A few years ago, I was working a job I did not like very much and my days were monotone. Although I was making a decent salary, I had trouble sleeping, trouble waking up. I never seemed to have enough energy. My moods would swing between extreme levels of elation and depression on a daily basis.

One day, my friend recommended taking a positive approach to every aspect of your life on a daily basis, even during bad situations. To be honest, I was probably not quite ready for this approach at the time. However, I found his idea to be interesting. At first it seemed easier said than done, especially when things don’t go your way. I decided to give it a try anyway.

The first thing I did was to stop caring so much about things I couldn’t control and focused on the things I had control over. I still remember the first time I started a positive journal, where I would write 3 things that were going right for me every day. Looking back, this exercise was incredibly simple. All it took was a pen and paper and 5 to 10 minutes every day to do. After a while, I realized that things weren’t as bad as they seemed. This whole time I was unhappy for no apparent reason.

Don’t be afraid to change your point of view.

As time when by, being positive became much easier and it even became a habit. Soon, I was amazed at all the ways I could make my life better by simply focusing on the positive. First, I started paying attention to changes in my life that were positive. Soon, I started enjoying them and even looking for them. Whenever something didn’t go my way, instead of getting upset, I stopped for a minute and asked myself “how can I overcome this situation”.

By staying positive even in my worst moments, my life turned around. Days became better and I started enjoying life again, even if things didn’t change that much, the way I perceived the world changed completely. Nowadays, I am very happy. Every day I wake up in a good mood and I can’t thank my friend enough for introducing me to the positive thinking method. This method is so simple, yet so powerful. When people ask me how I stay positive all the time, my answer is always the same: There is no such thing as a bad situation or a bad person. There are only bad attitudes towards life and its situations.

Over the years I have discovered many ways to be more positive and change the way I look at things. If you are reading this, chances are that you are looking for ways to make your life better.

My tips for you.

Here are a few pointers, that worked for me to make it easier to stay positive, no matter what happens:

  1. Focus on the things you can control:
    For many, Anxiety kicks in when they are faced with a situation where they have no control. When this happens, it can be hard to know what to do. In fact, when we do not have control over a situation, we focus on that situation and our anxiety gets worse. Take a step back and ask yourself, “Will this matter in 5 year ? “.
  2. See failure as an opportunity:
    If you focus on the bad, things wont get better.
    For example, you get fired from your job. It is a situation you don’t want to be in, but take a moment to reflect. Now you have the opportunity to try something new. Maybe you will find a new job that will offer a better work environment or maybe you will meet new friends along the way, or you could now travel the continent as you always wanted, but didn’t have time.
  3. Live and let live:
    Life is short and we will all die one day. It is not worth it to spend your entire life worrying about other people. Are you living your life to the fullest? Why bother with things that will not matter in 5 years.


Remember that everything happens for a reason, even if it is not clear to you.
Things will work out the way that they are supposed to and nothing can stop that.
It is never too late to get back up and start over, as long as you keep moving forward.
If something happens, don’t dwell on it and try to find a reason for it. Put your energy into finding a solution for the situation instead of looking back at what you have lost in the past. Don’t be stuck in any one place either; like I mentioned above, things will work themselves out in time if you keep moving forward.
