We often forget that not everyone is cut out for university or college. Especially in this world, where we’re told that education is everything and that the lack thereof means you can’t succeed.
It would be nice if we could all get a degree for doing absolutely nothing, but unfortunately, life just doesn’t work that way. However, even though you may not have gone to college you can still be very successful in life. Just because you didn’t go to school doesn’t mean there are no options left available.
Set yourself up for success.
The main thing that potential graduates need to realize is that the degree itself is not going to be the determining factor in whether or not you succeed, but what you do with it once you get a job will be.
So if you’re not into school, then don’t bother wasting your time in school for a degree that will just send you into debt and secure a job you hate for the rest of your life. Instead, make yourself into someone that employers want to hire.
Read books, take online classes or head down to the local college and see if they offer any courses on anything that could be remotely useful in your career of choice. If not, maybe you can do some self-teaching or enroll in something like a business management certificate course online.
The point is that it’s not about what you did or didn’t study while you were at school. Instead focus on how you turned your skills into something people can use.
Make yourself useful.
The second thing to realize is that not everyone is cut out to be an academic. Fortunately, there are hobbies that don’t require a degree to participate in.
Yes, it’s true that you could go into engineering or architecture, but you’re still going to have to take some boring, repetitive classes. They will most likely leave you with little time for other things. Instead of trying to fit yourself into a mold that only leads to lost dreams, there are lots of other hobbies available.
You don’t need any training, all you need is some good tools and the knowledge on how to use them properly and you’ll be set for life.
For example, if you’re into cars, it’s not hard to make a living working on them. All it takes is some time and a few tools to be able to diagnose problems and repair engines. If you’re good enough, then pretty soon you’ll be able to start your own business and soon you’ll be making more money than someone who wasted four years of their life earning a degree in useless subject matter.
Be the one who sets the rules instead of follows them.
Just because you don’t have an education doesn’t mean that there aren’t any jobs out there for you. Instead, search for careers involving things like sales, marketing or starting your own business.
These are great full-time professions that don’t necessarily require a degree but can be just as lucrative – if not more so – than anything else available to anyone who has a 4 year degree.
Be ready to outwork everyone else.
Finally, make sure you’re willing to outwork everyone else in the workplace. Since you didn’t invest time and energy in school, it’s up to you to catch up. For this reason, you will need to put in the extra effort when no one else will. Don’t ever be afraid of hard work because it’s one of the only guarantees that you’ll get what you want out of life.
A degree is not an essential tool to be successful in this world. The economy changes constantly and a 4 year degree can become obsolete before you even graduate.
An important thing to understand, is that the world is your oyster and no one can tell you otherwise. This is the world of abundance and if you’re in it, then you want to make sure that you’re ready to take advantage of everything that life has to offer.
Most importantly, do something you enjoy enough to become the best at it. Eventually your hobby will end up paying your bills.
